Speeding Devices

Objective: Put speeding control devices in our village. Criteria for being allowed such a device, 3 fatalities or being able to prove that the traffic going through our village averages over 37mph. The speeding test carried out showed up 2 areas that qualified, Whaddon Road and Main Street.

Advice received from Alison Mitchell, Customer Relations Officer - Safer Roads, email address Ali.Mitchell@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk confirms that the evidence during the assessment of Whaddon Road and Main Street has identified a well founded related risk to road users and has confirmed that speed enforcement under the community concern scheme has been approved on Main Street, and a mobile enforcement site has been identified and will be enforced on a rotational basis. Unfortunately they cant do the same in Whaddon Road as there is no-where for the location of the van to enforce within set down guidelines. However, as we know, there are plans afoot to re-locate the 30mph sign further back up Whaddon Road, so hopefully there will be an improvement should this take place.
We feel sure that none of you exceed the speed limit through Main Street, but you will have to be fully on your guard now. We are extremely pleased with this result and the efffect it will have on our community. Well done to the Parish Council for continuing to pursue this issue.

The first of the speeding devices approved has been erected in Whaddon Road, (being found to be the worse of the 2 areas that were surveyed), the situation will be reviewed again once this has been up and running for a while, probably by undertaking another speed test to see if things have improved, then hopefully it will then be possible to erect another one in Main Street.
